Product Description
Downlighting – Standard – Lytecaster
Lytecaster low voltage
MR16 lamps offer a unique punch and sparkle which is ideal for highlighting small objects such as artwork, glass and tableware. The MR16 lamp features a powerful central beam surrounded by a less intense “corona”. The PAR36 lamp provides a well-controlled, glarefree beam. Lytecaster low voltage downlights are designed to provide a wide range of adjustment. Many feature “hot aiming” so the beam can be tilted and rotated while the fixture is on. Adding dimming controls allows the intensity of the beam to be adjusted to the desired effect.
Low voltage frame-in kits
Lytecaster Low Voltage Frame-in Kits offer a choice of installation options and performance levels for high impact accent lighting.

- 2000LV series features the smallest aperture size (3 3/4″) for the most dramatic applications and widest selection of trim and finish options.
- 5″ 1000LV series provides higher wattages and greater adjustability for more demanding projects.
- 6 3/4″ 1100 series utilizes reflector trims with integral transformers that provide the highest wattage and most adjustability.
- Replaceable lamp socket and “Hot Aiming” are standard.
Lytecaster dimming
Lytecaster low voltage downlights may be dimmed for added accent lighting impact. Philips Lightolier offers many Controls options for low voltage fixtures, including OnSet, MultiSet, Scenist, and Brilliance controls and dimmers (these are designated by the suffix “VA” or “LV” following the catalog number). For additional details on Philips Lightolier’s entire line of dimming control systems contact Philips Controls Division at 1‑800‑526‑2731.
Noise
There is some noise produced by low voltage systems: both from the lamps and the magnetic transformers, especially when dimmed.
This noise can be audible depending on the lamp/ transformer combination, the level of background noise, the sound absorbency of the surrounding surfaces and the hearing of the people in the space.
Whether the noise is objectionable depends largely on how critical the application is.
In general, non-dimmed, magnetic transformers will be audible to most observers in most applications. PAR36 lamps, in general, emit a characteristic filament “buzz” or “sizzle” especially when dimmed. We do not recommend their dimmed use in very quiet environments.
Private homes, quiet specialty shops and galleries tend to be more sensitive to noise than department stores or circulation spaces. Conference rooms, stores and quiet restaurants fall in between.
Where noise can be expected to be a user issue, special care should be taken to examine all design options especially the choice of lighting, surface, and furnishing materials.
Electronic transformers, transformer free fixtures and remote transformers are also available.
